How am I supposed to get a job and gain experience if no one will hire me without any?
Okay, I am 19 years old, female. I have never had a job, but I have been applying to jobs since I was 17. I know it's due to lack of experience, because EVERYWHERE I apply to says ''experienced cashier'' or ''experienced waitress'' or ''experienced retail salesperson''. I'm talking about diners, ice cream shops, walmart, kmart, hustler store, clothing stores, gas stations, supermarkets. Like seriously, I know quite a few people my age that are working their first job right now and they did not have experience! And I don't understand, these jobs are fairly simple, I have a high school diploma, I can count money, I am willing to be trained in stocking inventory or whatever they seem to need ''experience'' for. I would ideally like to be a waitress for now since I have good memorization skills and I am charismatic and it's a job with tips. I even tried applying to be a ''hostess'' since somebody recommended that to me to get promoted to a waitress. But I am never called for interviews, and when I call them, they say they have found somebody ''who better fits the position because of their level of experience''. It really bothers me because my family is starting to think I am a loser since I am not working, but it's not my fault, I apply. Am I just having bad luck? I am a student in community college and I live off of my pell grant money but I would like to work, at least part time. I have even made a ''resume'' of volunteer work I have done with the SPCA and Boys and Girl's Club. But I still don't get an interview. What am I doing wrong?
