How Do I Approach Customers And Make A Sale?

I just got hired as a customer service rep. in a jewelry store.My job is to draw the customer in with conversation until a salesperson can help them. The only sales experience I have is in marketing and it was over the phone. I was surprisingly good at it but in person it's totally different. I'm actually very shy and awkward and don't even know how I got this job, haha. I want to do well at this job but I need to figure out how to start a good conversation and keep the customer intrigued.
