Canadian French vs. European French help?

I'm writing a story where there are a series of schools in North America and I was intending to have my main school in Canada and have the people who attended be from Canada and northern US states. I was wondering about the population of Canada that speaks only French. Would it make sense to have their parents send them to France for schooling, or is the dialect too different for that?
